Overview
The College of Architecture and the University offer numerous resources through different campus offices to assist students with a variety of needs. They include the following resource areas: Academic Resources, Student Organizations, Career Resources, Professional Organizations, and Health & Wellness.
Academic Resources
Academic Advisors
All Undergraduate and Graduate students are assigned an Academic Advisor, a member of the faculty in the College of Architecture. Your advisor is your primary resource for academic questions and for course selection each semester.
Student Organizations
The College of Architecture has several very active student organizations that are chapters of national professional organizations. Chapter activities and events range from professional development panels, to social events, to office visits, tours, conferences and guest lectures. Follow the CoA student organizations on Instagram to keep informed about their activities and learn how to join.
American Institute of Architecture Students
The American Institute of Architecture Students (AIAS) is an independent, nonprofit, student-run organization dedicated to providing unmatched progressive programs, information, and resources on issues critical to architecture and the experience of education. The AIAS aims to promote excellence in architectural education, training, and practice; to foster an appreciation of architecture and related disciplines; to enrich communities in a spirit of collaboration; and to organize students and combine their efforts to advance the art and science of architecture.
Career Resources
Our strong partnerships with employers, alumni, faculty, and other university stakeholders ensure the career readiness of our students. In addition to the University’s significant career advising resources, the College maintains an Assistant Dean for Professional Development to work directly with architecture students. Additionally, our strong partnerships with employers, alumni, faculty, and other university stakeholders support student career-readiness. Our vision is to be the hub for career education, career development, and professional experience.
The College of Architecture hosts regular informational sessions and panels on professional topics such as the architectural licensing process. The College works with Career Services to support the architecture Career Fair each semester and disseminates information about job opportunities through the CoA Opportunities Google Group (open to all current students and alumni of the College of Architecture). Approval is needed to join the Google Group.
Office of Career Services
The Office of Career Services assists with internship and job search resources, workshops, Career Fair information and more. Career Services’ primary platform for connecting you to resources is Handshake. See here to learn more and activate your Handshake account.
International students seeking internship experience will work with Career Services and also need approvals from the Office of Global Services. F-1 students will have to obtain Curricular Practical Training (CPT) work authorization in addition to filling out the Experiential Learning application forms.
