Visiting Assistant Professor, M.TBVU Degree Program Associate Director
Yohan Kim is a Visiting Assistant Professor and Assistant Director of the Master of Tall Buildings and Vertical Urbanism (M.TBVU) program. His expertise lies in sustainable façade design for tall buildings and the integration of computational simulation into the design process.
Professor Kim holds a Ph.D. in architecture from IIT. His research centers on high-performance building façades, natural ventilation in tall office buildings, and computational fluid dynamics (CFD) modeling and analysis. His dissertation, entitled “The Feasibility of Double-Skin Façades (DSFs) to Provide Natural Ventilation in Tall Office Buildings,” explored the impact of DSF configurations on indoor airflow behavior. At IIT, he teaches advanced design studios and lecture/seminar courses, including Talking Tall II and Tall Building Technologies II. Since joining the IIT faculty in 2022, he has also assisted in directing the M.TBVU program, a multidisciplinary, design- and research-based program.
In addition, Professor Kim is the Academic Coordinator at Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat (CTBUH), the world’s leading non-profit organization focused on tall buildings and future cities. In this role, he manages the CTBUH annual research and design competitions, serves as a reviewer for these competitions, and is a member of the CTBUH Asia Steering Committee.
