Associate Teaching Professor, Second Year M.Arch. Studio Coordinator, NCARB Licensing Advisor
Tom Brock is an Associate Teaching Professor serving as Coordinator for the Second Year Graduate Studios and as the College’s NCARB Licensing Advisor. His expertise in advanced curtainwall technology and urban design has shaped courses such as ARCH 509: Topics in Advanced Technology—Curtainwalls and ARCH 543/ARCH 544: Architecture Studio III & IV—Living and Working in the City.
With over 25 years of teaching experience, Brock has taught at IIT since 1999 and previously held adjunct positions at the University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee, and Miami University in Ohio.
Professionally, Brock is the Principal of Tom Brock Architect, in Chicago, where he has led numerous architectural projects since 1999. Prior to that he was employed with firms like The Architects Collaborative, in Cambridge, MA and Carl Strauss & Associates in Cincinnati, gaining broad experience in design and project delivery.
His research and publications explore innovations in architectural systems, such as “The Brave New World of Integrated Project Delivery,” and his work on the Graham Resource Center, Crown Hall was published in Thermally Active Surfaces in Architecture.
A member of the AIA, NCARB, and the Chicago Committee on High Rise Buildings, he remains active in professional circles, contributing to the development of high-rise architecture and curtainwall performance.
