Professor of Practice, MCHAP International Programs Director
After working for many years as a Studio Head/Associate Partner at Skidmore, Owings & Merrill in Chicago, Professor Susan Conger-Austin joined the College of Architecture faculty in 1993. She is a graduate of Stanford University and received her masters in architecture at Princeton University.
Susan teaches advanced design studios and conducts seminars in both the graduate and undergraduate programs. Since 2000, Susan has collaborated with numerous universities and faculty throughout the world in various educational workshops, seminars, and exchanges. Awarded Fulbright Specialist Scholar grants, she has shared her teaching expertise in Chile, Brazil, and Spain. Due to her experience in international programs, Susan is at present the Director of International Programs for the Mies Crown Hall Americas Prize (MCHAP). In addition, she continues to practice and her work was recently published in both Architectural Record (Featured Houses) and Dwell+.
Professor Conger-Austin was the recipient of the 2019 College of Architecture Teaching Excellence Award. Currently, She serves on the Board of Trustees for the AIA Chicago Foundation and is a member of the Leading Forum Committee at the Chicago Architecture Center.
