Associate Professor, B.Arch. Degree Program Director
Frank Flury is an Associate Professor and Director of the Bachelor of Architecture Program in the IIT College of Architecture with over 20 years of experience in developing and delivering a Design/Build curriculum to both undergraduate and graduate students.
An architect and master carpenter educated in Germany, Flury focuses on the critical connection between thinking and making. Under his direction, students have designed and built projects for numerous non-for-profit and charitable organizations worldwide.
Each of the completed projects was undertaken with the understanding that the design would be of the highest quality, given budget constraints and the skill set of the student builders. In every case, the final product has been elegantly planned and carefully detailed, demonstrating the commitment and skill of the design/build group as a whole.
Despite the diversity in building type and location, each project has had a profound impact on its immediate context through its intimate engagement with the local community and due to the collaboration between faculty, students, and the community.
This work has received numerous professional design awards including the 2010 AIA Distinguished Building Award and in 2018 Professor Flury received the inaugural Board of Trustee Outstanding Undergraduate Teaching Award.
